My Monster Hunter Rankings

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite

This was my first monster hunter game, and I played it on the PSP. I remember playing this game for hours on end with my cousin through LAN, trying to beat the hardest monsters and complete all the quests. It was a great experience and I still have fond memories of it. This was the game that made the franchise stick for me and made me a lifelong fan.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

This monster hunter game was pretty fun, although it was a barebones version of Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, It was definitely an enjoyable experience but I really have my most fun on games where they do more experienmental things with weapons and movesets. This was the most similar to my original experience with Monster Hunter Freedom Unite but I got too used to the new quality of life features in the later games for me to like this. It's also important to note that I didn't play this game until 2024 which was a long time after its initial release.

Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate

This game was a lot of fun, and I really enjoyed the new movesets and weapons that were introduced. It was also the first monster hunter game that I played on the Nintendo Switch, which made it a lot more convenient to play on the go. I really liked the new hunting styles that were introduced, which added a lot of variety to the gameplay. Overall, I had a great time playing this game and it definitely holds a special place in my heart. I wish I could enjoy this game with my cousin who I played my first monster hunter with. The monster catalog is one of the biggest in the franchise and there's so much content in this game!

Monster Hunter Rise

This game was incredibly fun, this is one of those experimental titles with a nice monster catalog, the addition of wirebugs and the weapon mechanics added a load of new movement and fun to the game. It was a breath of fresh air from monster hunter world and I say this because the gameplay here is much faster paced and the hunts felt a lot more dynamic. The palamutes (dog mounts) made the traveling a lot easier as well which was amazing compared to previous games where walking from area to area was mandatory.

Monster Hunter World

This game was a lot of fun, it was a lot slower paced and the environment felt so alive, the ambience was great and its arguably one of the most popular monster hunter titles. This was with good reason, the graphics were a huge upgrade, the content was massive, and the endgame was very entertaining. Many of my favorite monsters are from this game, for example the Namielle, the Nergigante, and Fatalis making a comeback was so awesome to see. The weapons felt nice and the skills and movesets were so fluid

Monster Hunter Wilds

This was the most recent title and honestly it's still too early to tell how I feel about the title, It's great the monsters are amazing but my only complaint is how the game runs It's really heavy on my PC and I had to end up subscribing to a cloud gaming service to run this game, now I'm playing it on my ps5 that I was recently gifted and I honestly want to start it over and give it another chance. It's an amazing game but I'm waiting for an endgame or more content to enjoy. It just doesn't feel complete which obviosuly it isn't so it just needs extra time to marinate and grow on me.
